Accessibility
Mid-Term Ireland is designed to make holiday dates readable with different devices and ways of navigating. The operator aims to meet Level AA of WCAG 2.1, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, in both the light and dark colour schemes. The site has not yet been fully assessed against these guidelines.
Features that support access
Every page is organised under headings and offers a skip link that jumps to the main content. Keyboard focus stays visible, text can be enlarged and the layout works on a narrow screen.
Tables include captions and header cells to explain the information they contain. Scrollable tables can be reached using a keyboard, allowing their contents to be explored without a pointer.
Colour is never the only way information is conveyed: tags also contain words. The countdown panel uses a polite live region, while the holiday dates remain readable when scripts are unavailable.
Known limitations
On a phone, the table with primary and post-primary dates side by side scrolls horizontally. The table can be focused with a keyboard, and on the school-year pages the same dates are quoted in the text beneath it.
Official documents linked from the site are outside the operator's control. These include PDF circulars on government websites, whose accessibility may differ from that of the site's own pages.
Testing and outstanding checks
Automated accessibility checks using axe have been run on every page of the site, in both the light and dark colour schemes, and found no violations. Manual testing with a keyboard and with a screen reader is still pending. The operator aims to meet Level AA, but this statement does not claim conformance while those checks remain incomplete.
Automated checks cannot identify every barrier or establish that every visitor can use a page successfully. Reports of difficulties are welcome, including issues that have not been identified by those checks.
Report an accessibility barrier
Use the contact page to say which page was affected, what you were trying to do and what stopped you. If useful, include the device, browser or assistive technology involved.
The operator aims to answer accessibility reports within a few weeks.
